The Development of INTJ Children

This article reminded me of all sorts of interesting memories from my childhood. One summer, when I was 11 years old, I had the opportunity to be part of a student ambassador program which sent me and a group of kids out to California’s unique redwood forests and headlands. Every kid out of the 36 of us that went, at one point during the two week interval, broke down and bawled due to homesickness. Some of the kids were downright incapacitated for hours at a time.

And I looked on in bewilderment. I was not homesick once during the trip. Some of the counselors even asked me how I felt about being away, to which I responded with a shrug and an unelaborative “fine.”

When my counselors told all this to my Mom (ISFJ), her response was “… I’m not sure whether to be proud or disappointed!”

To clarify: I love(d) my family very much, and I did miss them all. I just didn’t have the time to spend dwelling on the fact!

(My Mom will say the reason I was so independent and secure was because she held me so often as a baby. :P )

That was such a great trip. I grew and developed so much as a result of it.

hmm… I don’t think I would actually consider this to be an “INTJ” trait (mostly because the idea of an “INTJ” trait is pretty laughable in itself, also because of the reason I will explain below”.

Although I know that OBVIOUSLY this is meant to be humourous but functionally, it just doesn’t work:

“Spelling Nazism” is way more indicative of Si than Ni, because Ni dominance (or anyone on the Ni/Se dichotomy, really), would be generally indifferent to such an insignificant error, providing that the message was still Je communicated.

This cartoon is basically just comically hyperbolizing the archetype of a person so dedicated to insignificant details that it eclipses their view of larger issues. That person is an ISTJ, maybe an ESTJ.

When I saw the strip, I interpreted it not only as a representation of emotional detachment, but also an illustration of the INTJs hallmark independence and respect for individual autonomy. The assumed INTJ character did not question the personal decision of the other character out of respect for the individual’s capacity to make a decision, and instead moved to the next thing in line: effective execution of plan. (Based out of a “results” paradigm.)

But with that said, I think your analysis better addressed the actual idea the strip was getting at. I cede to your superior knowledge of JCF!

So I understand S functions are often associated with details and facts as opposed to overarching ideas. However, couldn’t the Ti drive for precision and clarity also explain “spelling nazism”? Or would that still be dependent on which percieving function that directed it? (ie Ti with S focuses on precision in details, Ti with N focuses on precision of ideas?)

Just tryin’ to learn more.

This is what happens when an N dom doesn’t ground themselves with a Je function. Learn teh conventions, plais.

This is what happens whenever I attempt to lie down and sleep.

This is PRECISELY what happens to me when I get involved in a deep discussion or debate. In an instance, my Ni will bombard my conscious with a rapid stream of concurrent and sub points, which leads to a temporary, moments-long paralysis as I sift through the new material. These instances often culminate in an overexplanation or an inarticulation. If my point ISN’T lost, it is certainly delivered suboptimally. I’ve got to train my Te ruthlessly prioritize my points. Less, in the case of an dominant N, is more.

INTjs have a characteristic ascetic face. There are two reason for this. Firstly the facial structure itself is often reminiscent of ancient portraits because of its angularity and composition of the features, like cheekbone and eyebrow arcs. Secondly their facial expression is often accepted as emotionless and severe. Their face is usually pale or bloodless. Males often have a short haircut. In many cases INTjs are slim. Their stomach is usually placed ahead of the chest giving them their characteristic posture. Their gait is somewhat unsure, wavering slightly. Sometimes it seems like they are not sure where they are going. This becomes more obvious in moments of excitement. Their clothes are not usually very striking. INTjs do not like to attract excessive attention to themselves and most of the time they stick to simple clothes, often wearing the same style and composition for a long time. Their speech is very clear and logical and they always follow a logical progression. They also have a tendency to emphasize key words. They do not refuse any proposals immediately, preferring to examine them first. INTjs are very reserved and usually do not take the initiative in talking about their interests and private life. This can lead others to think that they have no private life at all. INTjs have a very characteristic tendency to independence and can only accept a whole freedom. In work matters they combine their need for freedom with a feeling of responsibility. INTjs are not very demanding. They are often indifferent to food and its presentation. It can be simple but must be fresh. When involved in something interesting they can completely forget that they need to eat. In everyday matters INTjs are modest and are happy to have a minimum degree of comfort. INTjs usually have an interest that stays with them for a long time and are absolutely indifferent to what others say about it. They never endorse their position in life. INTjs live in a world of their own conception. They simply ignore rules, concepts and directives that do not suit them. Most people do not understand INTjs and try to keep away from them.
